2001 crx.honda-perf.org fundraiser
Helping friends in need

John Moeller or Joey Proulx

com·mu·ni·ty (kuh-myoon-itty) n.
1. A group of people having common interests.
2. Sharing, participation, and fellowship.
3. A group of plants and animals living and interacting with one another in a specific region under relatively similar environmental conditions.

Eh, two outta three ain't bad.

Recently, a long-time member of the crx.honda-perf.org community was struck with a problem that may mean the selling of his CRX. We, the evil overlords of this site decided to stop burning ants with magnifying glasses long enough to help - but it takes more than us. After all, bagging groceries and cutting lawns will only net you so much profit. You can help.

His name is Braulio Adorno, but most of us know him as BA. He hails from the metropolis that is Columbia, SC. He drives a 1990 CRX Si, modified with a ZC and breather mods. About a year ago, he completely gutted and rebuilt the ZC to fix a busted bearing. Now a year later, fresh off a bad accident at work involving an 18 wheeler and many trees, the engine is going again. It may be the bearing again, it may not. Whatever it is, it's horrible timing, and may lead to him selling the car, obviously for much less than what it would be worth with a good engine. This is where you all come in.

We decided that the best way to go about this was to ask for donations from forum members. We're not asking for the world here. There are many forum members here, and even a little bit from each member should net enough for BA to get his car back on the road. Also, as incentive, the God-like admins of crx.honda-perf.org will send a prize to the person who sends in the largest donation. This could be anything - a Team Why-49 t-shirt, a box of jello, a broken tennis racket, some ZC piston return springs, a can of yellow touch-up paint, or maybe even some nude photos of a certain moderator for the ladies (Editors Note: What ladies?). You never know!

Update: 9/4/2001

Here's BA's message noting how the fundraiser went..

I want to thank from the bottom of my heart each and everybody that made
any donation, suggestion and that gave me support on this time of need.
The fundraiser has been a success 100%. I'm still waiting for some
donations that have been pledged on the mail which will count for the total
needed for me to do what I need to do to what I'm getting.
I have received donations for a total of: $630 There is still 3 more
coming on the mail (2 I don't know how much and the other one is $20) and
one more coming from PayPal for $50. So if everything comes thru, I have
would have gotten $700. WOW!!! I didn't know I had so many GREAT friends,
I really hope I can pay all this back by helping out you guys/gals in any
way I can in the near future and for a while too. I have emailed John and
Joey and I need for the fundraiser to stop since the purpose has been met.
I really want to thank everybody that made this possible. Here is a list
of the donors (any donation money or otherwise) in no particular order. (I
will let John and Joey know who was the largest donor so that then can do
what they may with it)

Again, thanks to ALL of you that helped or even thought about
helping, there has been plenty of times where I wanted to help but
couldn't. Life is a LOT sweeter when one has so many good friends like I
have here on this forum/community. Thanks to all from the bottom of my
heart. I guess this is why this board still lives on even after all the
turmoil it has gone thru, friendship is very powerful here and just as any
family fight, we fight too, but make up and continue on growing. I can't
keep from saying thanks to all, this means a lot to me, specially at this
point of my life where everything was going wrong.

Thanks to all of you I have a ZC on my garage (it arrived today) and I
have ordered all gaskets and necessary parts to get it in the reliable
way. My old ZC was out of the CRX this past weekend since I was sure I was
going to be able to get another one thanks to you all. BTW, the ZC I got
looks excellent, it was on an auto car (still had the Auto flywheel) and
it still had the Power Steering pump on it. The wiring harness is
completely cut, just before the plugs too, but I can swap my ZC's old
harness, which is better since the Dist is already wired. After I replace
all the gaskets and seals this ZC should be in pretty good repair. I have
the impression that since it came out of an Automatic car the ZC hasn't
been beat up to hell like some of the ones we have gotten. I also noticed
that there are 2 extra vacuum lines coming out of the intake manifold and
of course the TPS was broken so I will be swapping the whole TB from my
old ZC onto the new one. I also noticed the new ZC's TB had Cruise
Control, it has 2 throttle cables hooked up to the throttle plate... weird
too.

I'll keep you all posted as how this goes, I'm on vacation this week so I
want to get this ZC in by the weekend, I still have to take the new ZC
head to get the valve job done and to get the new valve guide seals
installed. I also noticed that the carbon deposits on the new ZC's exhaust
side is minimal so that tells me the engine has been running good before
it was pulled out to be sold.

Thanks, Thanks, Thanks, Thanks, Thanks, Thanks, Thanks, Thanks, Thanks,

BA...

So there you have it. The fundraiser was a success and BA will be back piloting his CRX in no time, thanks to the community we've forged here at crx.h-p. I'm proud to be affiliated with what we have going on here (always have been) and I hope we can continue the good times we've had.

Thanks,

-John and Joey, your admins.
